| Well, it's Christmas day, so Merry Christmas to those who are inclined that way - I just got a Homer Simpson bottle opener. Top. And Happy New Year in advance as well while we're at it... a much better generic reason for celebration! |
| I have been spending most of my free time lately working on the drums for the upcoming EP (should be out by March 2005 folks!) - and I have to say, I have reached a new level of mental instability because of it. Strangely enough, though, Steve and Tom in particular didn't think it was any different than normal - I don't really know what that says about me. But I can share with you this: I was repeating a quote from Father Ted - the episode where they had to protest the "Passion of St. Tibulus" (or something like that) film and they both have signs; Ted is shouting "Down with this sort of thing!" and Dougal adds "Careful now..." This was going through my head for at least an hour or so - but what followed next was truly disturbing. I was running some sort of conversation between a father and son from the American 1950's saying things like "Gee, Dad, what about nuclear power?", "Well, Son, it's all about smashing atoms together..." It was sort of nondescript, like the dreams you have that are unusually vivid and make sense at the time, but when you try and remember it it just slowly fades away into your peripheral vision (even more poignant in my case, as the lenses on my glasses don't stretch around to my peripheral vision!)... All of this was interspersed with my mantra of "1 - J - 3 - J" (I'll let users of Cubase decipher that themselves.. and don't get me started on the upgrade problems with version 3 - thank god for the patch that came out last week! Sorry... that sounds really spoddy doesn't it). But the rest of the boys have been great in coming around at the drop of a hat to lend their input and suggestions, and eventually rescued me and dragged me down the pub (yeah, always a problem with that!) for a "Plugs Christmas Do" last Wednesday. |
| Spencer has just moved house, so it'll be a few weeks before we can finish off the last guitar overdubs, but now the drums are pretty much finished off and mixed, Steve and I will be adding the extra embellishments, tightening up bass lines, and laying down our vocals. Tom has been singing more and more BV's, and is determined to sing lead on one of the tracks - but it might not be one that ends up on the EP. He'll definitely be recording BV's in January with us, so we'll see then if anything takes his interest! So apologies now for the silence since November, and apologies in advance for the lack of communication in the next month or so while we're finishing off the recording! |
