A few weeks ago we loaded up our cars and headed off to the village of Cumnor in Oxfordshire to begin recording tracks for a planned album (although it may end up as several EPs, or some downloads and an album... you get the idea - it's gonna be released).
Our plan is to record all of our live tracks that have comprised the gig sets over the past year, plus a few extras we've been working on that no one has heard yet. Once we bash through these, we'll see what our favourites are and then take it from there - perhaps re-recording bits that need it, changing stuff we're not happy with, that kind of thing.
But one of the benefits of doing things this way is that we will end up with "live demos" of all of our tracks - wonderful one-take wonders of each song that we will mix very roughly just for our reference to be used as the selection process for an album's-worth of songs. It also means that as we record and do our "throw-up-the-faders" rough mixes we will be posting them to our MySpace website so you can hear how it's going as we are recording!
These rough demos will only be up on MySpace for a limited time each, and will be rotated with new tracks as we complete them, so you'll have to keep checking back both here and there to make sure you don't miss out.
So far we've recorded 5 tracks: Car Crash (the set-closer romper-stomper bounce-up-and-down one), Whatever (a new Stevie Wonder meets ELO version), End of the World (the new pulsing rockier Muse version), I Want to Believe (the relentless cymbal-frenzy set-opener) and The One That Got Away (the sparse post-punk Roxy Music-esque version complete with our new The Who musical interlude...)
As of today, Car Crash and Whatever are now up on MySpace, and expect the others to follow shortly. My rambling descriptions don't really do them justice - you'll just have to listen for yourself. And there's plenty more to come.
